This project, started in 2024 and will run until April 2025.

Working in partnership with The Blue Light Hub. Sarah is working with Buckinghamshire Fire, Thames Valley Police and SCAS, on a community project that will be supported by MAKE.

MAKE will use this project as a case study in a Toolkit of Cultural Diversity resources. It will provide inspiration and guidance for schools wanting to collaborate with MK based creatives.

Sarah is working with three primary schools on the project and run some workshops for members of Harrys Rainbow, ( a Milton Keynes charity).

This project has been kindly funded by Milton Keynes Community Foundation, Buckinghamshire Fire Service and Thames Valley Police.

Each school was visited by one of the three emergency services where all children got to meet with the service workers, getting to ask plenty of questions and learn vital information about the roles of Firefighters, Police Officers and Paramedics. Children also got to experience the vehicles and see and demo lots of kit, which was a high light of the visits as well as being able to go inside the vehicle. During these site visits children were encouraged to take photos with the class iPads that could be used to support their illustrations, as all children were asked to submit a illustration for a design competition, each school was supported with having a visiting illustration Artist and Sarah in school for the day making their way around each class.

Working with Local Schools

Langland Community School, Charles Warren Academy and Greenleys Junior School were all project partners, with over 600 young people from their schools participating with the project. Each school has visits from the Emergency services, illustrators and worked with me over serval weeks whilst every child had an equal opportunity to help create the mosaic. 26 illustrations from the children were selected and used within the design.

Making the Mosaic

Over several months the mosaic came to life through hands on workshops. What began as a creative idea grew into a powerful community artwork-made with patience, care and connection.
