REFLECTING ON THE PANDEMIC

The Headteacher at Portfields Primary school wanted to allow the Year 6, class of 2021 that were leaving their primary school the opportunity to create a piece of lasting art that could tell there story with a mosaic. The children began by spending time in their class whilst talking about their time at the school with particular focus on their last year living through COVID 19. A collection of drawings were presented to Sarah and she picked out as many elements as she could from artwork, using lots of the children’s idea’s to create one large picture. The mosaic included a visual story board of the pandemic. This mosaic was hung on the exterior wall of the Year 6 block which is within the school playground.

“Seeing the chidren assemble at the classroom door and jumping with joy at seeing that their designs has been selected was a highlight of the project for me.”
